Day 15

Absolution

Day Fifteen:   This was more of an experiment than an artistically composed shot. There's the classic project given to photography students to try to shoot white upon white. I've already done that, and so I thought I'd twist that one. Shooting clear on white. ;) I had a whole bunch of interesting shots doing this one.
My setup eventually -- for this one -- was a white backdrop, the crystal apple, and a single light source. I remember being taught by a fellow photographer that the best lighting is with one light. The earth only had one sun, so why would you compose a shot with three different lights. (I do understand there are exceptions when trying to create sharp shadows for shots, say, like fashion)
I used an LED light that would illuminate the apple with blue tones. I set the settings low to get a more glow look with it. Overall, I think this shot was the most technically correct picture. Plus, I like concept. ;)
I'd love to hear feedback on this too!

Day 14

Breakup

Day 13

Promise

Day Thirteen: So, this is actually a picture based off of a precious shot I had done before. I had conducted a poll on my website and the result is that my watchers would like to see more of this style. You can check out the previous shot here. Anyway, about this one... It's a take on the Twilight series' catch phrase by Edward, Be Safe. I wanted a vintage look with messy inkblots, with a script fancier than your normal writing but not too over done. I think I did okay. What do you think?

Day 12

C a l i c o

Day Twelve: I didn't have much inspiration that day, and I subjected myself to take a picture of this single tree I had in my backyard. It's a very awkward tree, as you can see by all those little twigs and whatnot. So, I had a rather interesting time trying to get a shot that day, lol.

Day 11

T r i b a l

Day Eleven: This. Is. My. Fav. I absolutely love this shot. Yeah, that sounds a bit conceded, I admit that. However, I really feel that way. I mean, I think I did a good job on this.
The colours/tones make me think of the movie Avatar and the plants on Pandora.
I don't know what I don't love about this.

Edit: I had opted to submit this to a group on a website who's choices are extremely watched for the highest quality pieces. This is what I recieved:
"Hi, we have elected not accept this shot, the image quality is good, but there is no real sense of anything to draw the viewers eye in and such, get closer, and try to study the textures instead of an overview with no real sense of composition"
So, I ask, what can I do to improve my shot next time?? Thanks!

Day 10

B e l l a

Day Ten: Okay, so it's not the best. That day was pretty busy and time passed by. I do like this shot, but it's not my favourite as of now. This was shot in B&W and I added some of the colour tones. It needed a little something to make it pop so I upped the contrast a bit too.

Day 9

Californian Beauty

Day Nine: So, this picture was shot up in Buena Park, California. I had a fourth four view from my hotel and the sunset was absolutely gorgeous. I almost forgout about taking picture because I was standing there just staring at it for so long. Thought it represented the California coast pretty well.

Back and Updates

Heya!

Well, I'm back now and have a computer. I would have updated daily while I was out, but my laptop crashed. Convenient no? >:[
Anywho, I did take my daily pictures, and will get them uploaded as soon as I can. Most likely tomorrow. I hate doing bulk updates, but hopefully I will be back on track soon. I have a whole lot to do and a lot to update and organize. Maybe I should get a day planner. Lol.

Hey guys!

Just a quick update here. I won't be posting any pictures. I'm on vacation, so I'll talk at ya later! Bye!

Day 8

The End is Near
Day Eight: The sunset was gorgeous tonight. I liked the little "window" peeking through the clouds. Made me think of the little bit of heaven showing through this sunset that looked like the end of days. Not much to say for this one. Just nature's beauty.

Day 7

You Give Me the Blues

Day Seven: So, I wanted to do the old classic shot; waterdrops on a feather. I did it once before and it was epic failure. I tried half a day for this, and I was about to give up. I mean, C'mon! It's just a feather with water on it! How special is that?! Right?....right. Anyhoo, I actually like the final result. The colour tones are what I aimed for and the composition is how I wanted it. You do get tired of the general center placement all the time.

Day 6

Cup of Wishes
Day Six: So, I wanted to give a shot and doing some serious bokeh. Here's my first try. This one's not that popular either. I don't love it, but I do like it. It needed something, but I was so braindead that day.

Tech Stuff:

Day 5

Don't Leave
Day Five: This is my pet, Blaze. I really like this shot, but I know alot of people don't. It doesn't have much technical parts correct to it, which can be fixed. The contrast on her face needs to be upped so the glare is not too high and some cropping could be done.
It'll be updated soon. I still like it though. :]

Tech Stuff:
Camera: Canon EOS Rebel T1i

Day 4

Grace

Day Four: This was a really hard setup. Took me about ten minutes to make the setup for this shot and then about 20 pictures to get the lighting right. The image itself is not edited what so ever. The only thing done was the light and colours in the plant and set up and how the camera shot it. The reason why this was so hard was because this was taken at night with a breeze. Over all, I'm really pleased with this shot.

Edit: I had opted to publish this into a group on a website who searches for the highest quality pieces. This is what I recieved:
" Very nice. Beautiful light, nice focus and well composed." Needless to say, it was accepted.
I'm very happy! What do you have to say?

Day 3

Luck of the Die

Day 3: This photo was mainly for another project that I'm involved in that required us to represent 365 in our chosen art medium. See it? Look at the die. ;)
I admit, this isn't my best piece. I wanted a vignette but I wasn't coming out right. Hmm.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Day 2

Love Me

Day Two: This a shot of my pet, Romeo. I wanted to achieve capturing the details of a cat's nose. I didn't succeed as I wanted to, but I tried my best. Right now, my main lens is a 18-55mm, and a macro would do better. Perhaps latter in the year, I'll try this again. ;)

Day 1

New Years

Day One: This is sorta like a project in of itself. I have always wanted to take a picture of the first sunset in the year and then one on the last day of the year and compare them. I thought it would be neat. So anyway. This is, obviously, a sunset on New Year's Day taken in Southern California.

Welcome!

Hey, I'm Liz!

Are you wondering what snap-a-lot is?? I thought so.
Snap-a-lot is my blog of my photographic journey through 2010. I have set my New Year's Resolution to take at least one picture a day. I will, however, only upload one. You see, this is a kind of way to hone my photographic skills to a more 'artsy' style and to force myself to choose between photos. Ya know, to limit oneself.

I'm taking on this task to help shape me into a better artist and person, and to take me farther into my future career. Come on and join me on my 365 journey and see the world through my eyes!
